Press Release
Executive Order gives Public Safety professionals another tool to address illegal activity
Published

Mayor Ted Wheeler is extending his curfew order for the entire City of Portland following a second night of protests. The Mayor first imposed a curfew order under the State of Emergency Declaration that he issued the morning of Saturday, May 30. The extended curfew will again go into effect Sunday night, May 31, at 8 p.m. and runs through 6 a.m. Monday.

We understand there are many questions and concerns throughout the community relating to the curfew. It is to ensure the safety of all in the community as well as to give Public Safety professionals another tool to address illegal activity. I’m sharing the updated Emergency Declaration (attached) and a copy of FAQs about the curfew on Mayor Wheeler’s website at this link.  (Note: The dates in the FAQs on the Mayor’s website will be updated shortly) Please feel free to share it.

Please also remind your readers and audiences that the Portland Bureau of Emergency Management will be sending out a Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) today at 4 p.m. reminding all in the community about the curfew. We’re asking to remind everyone that when the message is received, to please not call 911 unless someone is experiencing an actual emergency.

We truly appreciate your cooperation and help in keeping our community informed and safe!
