Press Release
Published

On Friday, February 7, 2020 at the PCC Southeast Community Hall, the City of Portland and Portland Police Association (PPA) bargaining teams held their first bargaining session.  During the session, the parties discussed the ground rules for the process of negotiating the next police contract. This meeting was open to the public to attend.

The parties reached a verbal consensus that they will issue joint press releases during bargaining to keep the community and the PPA’s membership updated on negotiations. At this first session, both the City and PPA made various proposals related to ground rules. Those proposals included procedural and logistical rules on how the parties conduct bargaining, including the process to exchange proposals and enter into tentative agreements; alternating public/private venues for bargaining; publication of proposals or tentative agreements; and attendance of City staff and experts at future sessions.

The next bargaining session will be held on February 24, 2020 and will be hosted by the City at 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM in room 108 of the Portland Building. This meeting is open to the public to observe.
