Mayor Ted Wheeler appoints Emmy Award-Winning Veteran Journalist and Communications Professional, Tim Becker, as his Public Information Officer.

“We are very pleased to welcome Tim Becker to the team. With more than three decades of experience in media communications, his experience, skills and insights will be invaluable to my administration,” said Mayor Wheeler.

Becker was most recently a public information officer and media relations specialist for TriMet.

Prior to that, he was an award-winning, trusted and well-respected journalist - serving as a news reporter/anchor at KOIN 6, sports anchor/director at KPTV and sports reporter/anchor at KOMO in Seattle. He started his communications career in Medford in 1987.

“I am grateful to Mayor Wheeler for this opportunity,” Becker said. “I’ve been following his administration closely for years and consider it a privilege to join a team deeply invested in improving the lives of all Portlanders and tackling some of the biggest challenges of our time with conviction and a sense of purpose.”

On a personal note, Becker lives in Portland with his wife and two Australian Shepherds.

His first day is Monday, July 8th.
