Apply for an amusement devices permit

Service
Any business that offers games which cost money or other valuable consideration to play must apply for a permit and pay a fee. A permit is required whether or not the business owns the devices. Permits expire on December 31 and must be renewed each year.

This form should take no longer than 10 minutes to complete

1) Count your regulated devices

Count the total number of regulated devices at the location, whether owned or non-owned.

Regulated devices include:

  • Pool tables
  • Foosball
  • Coin operated darts
  • Claw or grabber cranes
  • Trivia games
  • Pinball machines
  • Shuffle board
  • All video games (except state-owned video poker terminals)

Do not include:​​​​​

  • Jukeboxes
  • Vending machines
  • State-owned video poker
  • Keno
  • Pull tab or lottery devices

2) Download and fill out the application

3) Submit your completed application with payment to us

Make your check payable to 'City of Portland.'

Returned checks will incur a $35 charge (Returned Check Charge Policy)
