A year ago, Donnie Oliveira was hired as BPS’ new Communications Director. Hailing from the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality and the City of San Francisco, where he held executive-level positions, Oliveira has proven to be an effective leader, successfully guiding several of the bureau’s initiatives forward.

Director Andrea Durbin recently worked with Human Resources to create a position that better reflects the value he is providing for BPS today. The role of Deputy Director provides increased responsibility to our external partners, City Hall and other bureaus. The creation of the position is also consistent with other bureaus’ organizational structure.

Specifically, his position is responsible for providing senior leadership to the Bureau’s communications, government affairs, finance and budget operations; coordinating with the Mayor’s office; managing BPS work plan priorities; sequencing with the Planning and Sustainability Commission and City Council; and developing strategic bureauwide initiatives.

Said Director Durbin, “Donnie’s energy, strategic thinking, and commitment to our equity goals and accountability will serve BPS as we continue to advance our work.”
